When will the electrical safety check include an insulation resistance test?

Insulation resistance tests measure the total resistance between any two points separated by electrical insulation. It's therefore used to check the quality of the insulation, which can deteriorate over time.

In consultation with Energy Safe Victoria, we have identified certain circumstances in which insulation resistance tests will be included in the electrical safety check at a property, and by extension, when they will not be required.

Based on our consultation, we will complete an insulation resistance test only where we identify a switchboard with breakers but no safety switches.

Please read our "What's included in an electrical safety service?" article to learn more about the service.
